The Right to READ curriculum
A free resource for YOU
Every child has a right to read! The Rights of Every Child has created an engaging, interactive presentation that’s ready for educators, librarians, or caregivers to download and use with kids and young adults in a classroom, library, book club, or other setting.
It includes:
*How the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child relates to current book bans, challenges, author cancellations, and other forms of censorship.
*Why reading matters—that it’s vital for children to know how to read, have access to books, and be able to choose titles that speak to them, their experiences, and their world.
*Which books are banned and why.
*What students can do to protect and champion their right to read–with creativity!
“Books became our language. Books became our home. Books became our lives. We learned to read, to speak, to write, and to make our voices heard. Someday we will become something we haven't even yet imagined.”
― Yuyi Morales, from her picture book, Dreamers
